Nope! In South Carolina, you can access physical therapy services directly for 30 days without requiring a physician referral. In many cases, rehab care concludes within this window, allowing you to safely move to a performance training and wellness plan.

Everything starts with a 75-90 minute evaluation. Here, we capture your full story, injury history, and goals. We then move through a series of movement screens and baseline testing in order to hone in on the root cause of your issue. After testing, we lay out a clear pathway to your goals with metric-based tracking to help determine when to advance to the next steps in your programming. In person sessions may include manual therapy, corrective exercise, and education to help you understand your pain so you can eliminate it now and prevent it from reoccuring in the future.

Smith Performance Therapy (SPT) was created to work for YOU, not your insurance company. Our time together is 100% focused on solving your problem as quickly as possible, not spending valuable time documenting on my computer and bouncing between clients. You will never be left to do “busy work” with a band or on a bike. Sessions are always 1:1, progressive, and use the latest evidence-based solutions to identity and address the root cause of your specific situation. This structure often allows us to solve your issue in significantly fewer visits than traditional care. Further, our mobile app allows for metric tracking, custom program delivery, general support, and accountability between sessions.

Imaging is one piece of the puzzle. Recent evidence shows abnormal MRI/Xray findings in people without any pain whatsoever. You could have a “scary looking” MRI and not actually be in pain. Conversely, “problems” that show up on imaging are often blamed for your pain when they 1) may in fact NOT be the pain driver, and 2) are just the result of a problem, not the problem itself. When we unwind the movement pattern that got you to this point, the “problem” on your MRI may no longer affect you because your body actually has a chance to heal itself.

No! The fitness industry landscape is confusing and many people have a previous injury history finding it difficult to make significant gains in strength or mobility with their current approach. As a strength coach and clinician, SPT designs custom strength, injury prevention, and performance programming; coaching you through every step of the way via a mobile app. This is often a major departure from what you are currently doing (in a good way!) allowing you reach a new level of functional fitness, aesthetics, and sport performance all while reducing and preventing pain!
